FINGER PAINTING
1/3 c. gloss laundry starch
2 c. boiling water
1/2 c. soap flakes
Dissolve starch in small amount of cold water. Add boiling water and cook until clear. Add soap flakes and stir until dissolved. One-fourth cup inexpensive talcum powder may be added to give it a pleasant odor and act as a preservative, but it is optional. When cool, pour into small jars that have tight lids. Add powdered poster paints or food color for adding color to the finger paint. To paint: Use glazed size of wide shelf paper cut into pieces no smaller than 12 x 18 inches to give the children free arm movement. Wet paper generously with a sponge and spread water, using a flat wooden spoon or tongue depressor. Tack edges to dry smoothly.
